2006

A double sided projection work screened within a 6ft packing crate.
Part of the Migratory series, These films explore idea of transitions and departures. They are to do with trauma and the feeling one gets in the chest when moving on. Primary to the work is the sense of evoking a feeling. To communicate a certain physicality, and psychological space. The visceral nature of moving through a transition, a departure. From one point to the next.

The packing crate screening the images is raw, brusied, battered from travel and international shipping. The smell of the wood and the aesthetic of something firmly grounded in the world, yet the films are somewhat dreamlike and surreal. They move from being calm, suspended and at ease to being disturbed, broken, violent and uneasy.

On encountering the work, Calmly and vividly we see a body suspended in liquid, turning and moving slowly at first within a white suspension, then secondly the other side reveals the same body moving amongst debris and fragments. A seductive and violent situation is captured, calmly and somewhat dreamlike.

There is no sound – indicating a very personal isolating individual private space.

The titles refer directly to the time spent in a place, the relationships that evolve and the speed at which decisions to leave or go are enforced or individually manifest in the mind and body.
The films give us a sense of moving through something, both externally and internally.
